  So you're planning a vacation at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida.  Want to know what it's like before you get there?  Here's a photographic virtual tour.  The pictures were specifically taken for this web site.  They will give you an idea of what it's really like at Disney-MGM studios.  These are not vacation snapshots.  They are not publicity photos.

  This web site is "unofficial".  It contains four dozen photos taken during some of our family's many visits to park.  We took pictures that included crowds and "normal" weather conditions.  The pictures have been assembled into a Virtual Tour with informational captions.  We hope this will give you a feel of what it's actually like to visit the park.  We believe that knowledge is power.  If you know what to expect in advance, you will better be able to enjoy your expensive Orlando vacation.

THE PARK
  In concept Disney-MGM Studios is supposed to be "working movie studio" theme park, not unlike Universal Studios in Los Angeles used to be.  In reality, little production actually seems to be done at Disney-MGM.   Even the movie sound stages have been removed from the Backlot Tram Tour.  Instead, Disney characters and movie themed thrill rides are the current focus.   That being said, many people find Disney-MGM their second favorite Walt Disney World Resort theme park, behind the Magic Kingdom.  Here are the attractions most people will tell you to see while you're at Disney-MGM Studios:

  There are a few more attractions that aren't mentioned here, but they're narrow in appeal.  You should only invest your time in these attractions if they have strong appeal to you.  If you're organized and stick to your schedule, you can see all of the major attractions in about half a day.  If you add in the minor attractions and a couple of meals, Disney-MGM can be a full day experience.


TOUR PLAN
  Here is a tour schedule that will allow you to efficiently see all of the park's major attractions:

1. Arrive at the park 30 minutes prior to opening time.  This will allow you to park, go through security and get through the turnstiles by opening time.  On many days the turnstiles will open 15 minutes prior to the park's published opening time.

2. When the park opens, head up the main street (Hollywood Blvd.) and make the first right (Sunset Blvd.)  Get a Fast Pass for the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (so you can ride it later when the park gets busy.)  Ride the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster now while there is only a short line.

3. Immediately cross the street and ride Tower Of Terror.

4. Move quickly across the park and ride Star Tours.

5. Move to quickly to the back of the park and take the Backlot Tour.

6. Move to the center of the park and see The Great Movie Ride and Muppet Vision 3D.

  At this point you will have seen all of the major attractions in less than half a day.  Visit the remaining attractions below based on show times and your personal interests:

  Don't forget to double back and use your Fast Pass for a second spin on the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster.  Be sure to see Fantasmic! at night.  You may wish to take an afternoon break at your hotel and return later for the show.  If two Fantasmic! shows are offered, the second one is less crowded.  If you go to the early Fantasmic! show, get there at least one hour early... it fills up fast.  You may want to ask an employee during the day what kinds of crowds are expected at the Fantasmic! show that particular night.  For additional tips on touring the Disney World parks (including how to save money and what to bring), please read Disney World Tips & Advice.
