Still very much unacknowledged as such in the West, Buddhism presents the oldest system of psychology still practised in the world, and it is the teachings about mind, its functions and its development which actually constitute the very core of Buddhist lore. How these insights are expressed may differ in detail -the natural result of changes which happened in the course of a history spanning more than two and a half millennia- yet the essence and spirit of the Buddha's system have remained remarkably stable. The topics broached here resemble but a few drops randomly taken from the boundless ocean. They represent neither the vastness nor the depth of the sea, still they share one flavour with it and mirror the intrinsic interconnectedness of the parts with the whole. Of course, much more could be said about each of these subjects were it not for the limitations of the writer's knowledge. So far, I only managed to put the first draft part of one topic -doubt- here. Enjoy. |
