One Special Place in the Indian Countryside |
In his indomitable quest to ground Universal Education -Alice Project on a scientifically acceptable basis, Valentino Giacomin decided to found a school not far from Sarnath, an old Indian city which is holy to several spiritual traditions. Here, in the area between the villages of Gouroopur and Singhpur, he bought a piece of land and built a school -basically relying on the pension he received when he retired from governmental service in Italy!
This was in 1993. Now, after overcoming countless difficulties, the fruits of his endeavours are obvious to everyone. What started among rumours that children sent to the school would be sold overseas, has now become an institution well recognized by the Indian government and cherished by local parents. Where it was hard in the beginning to find families willing to send their offspring to the school, parents now have to be turned away because the present facilities don't allow the acceptance of additional children.
At the time of writing, more than three hundred pupils are trained in the Alice Project School. Children who otherwise would have hardly any chance in this life to receive any education are now taken care of in an admirably holistic way. Child labourers and illiterate women, too, are given unheard of opportunities at night school or in the village to learn helpful skills, acquire important knowledge, and grow as individuals. Worlds without letters and very often also without any understanding of traditional culture are transformed into intelligent, moral, and conscious universes.
It is a long-term project which has been initiated here and is carried out with great devotion. The financial resources available, however, are scarce. If you want to see how worthwhile this undertaking is take a look at the Students Performance page, and if you wish to support this most meaningful educational enterprise, please, contact Valentino Giacomin directly. You can be sure that every donation is going directly to benefit the students.
