"Deep Into That Darkness Peering, Long I Stood There, Wondering Fearing,
Doubting, Dreaming Dreams No Mortal Ever Dared To Dream Before..."
--Edgar Allan Poe

After terrorizing the town of Springwood and the residents of Elm Street for many years, most people believed they had finally gotten the upper hand on the wicked Fred Krueger. He had been burned, buried, consecrated, and even beheaded, but somehow he'd always come back. But this time it was different. This time they wiped him out altogether, using an experimental drug called hypnocil to suppress their kids' dreams so that they couldn't even think of Freddy Krueger. And if they couldn't think of him, they couldn't dream of him. And if they couldn't dream of him, their nights would be peaceful and the town of Springwood could get finally back to some semblance of much-deserved normalcy. However, when Krueger discovers their plan, he wipes out the entire supply of hypnocil and returns to Elm Street once again, resuming his devious duties plaguing the slumber of the new children.

Still trying to move on from the horrid past, the town finally gave a great deal on the old Thompson house to Sandra Murphy and her two daughters, Lexi and Apryl. They'd been living there for quite a while now, without any problems whatsoever. Lexi, Springwood high's head cheerleader, was finally beginning to like it there, despite her occasional dreams of a mysterious burned man with claws. Apryl, meanwhile, was more of the academic type, destined to earn her way to college. She, too, was having bad dreams, but didn't think anything of it.

There was a definite buzz going around Springwood High, as its Owls' football team was having a banner season. Led by quarterback Mike Clark (Lexi's boyfriend) and wide receiver Quinton Williams, the Owls were ready to make a run at the state championship, something that hadn't been done since long before Fred Krueger even existed, and the town was praying that it would finally happen. A state championship would mean so much more than just a trophy. It would symbolize a coming out party, a reckoning that Springwood had left its past in the past and that a bright future lied ahead.

The only roadblock in the way for the Owls was the two-time defending state champions, the Collins Mustangs, who were poised to make it number three at Springwood's expense. And it's in the week prior to the big game that things began to fall apart for Springwood once again.

Fullback Luke Swanson was deemed "too sick" to play in the game, and mysteriously vanished; Apryl Murphy along with her friend Veronica Mills both went into unexplained comas, and the town was left clueless, although under the surface, they knew exactly what was going on. Fred Krueger was regaining his strength and preying on the helpless children one-by-one.

By the time the big game finally arrives, things are all out of sorts. Lexi discovers that her best friend Tash, an aspiring art student and Quinton's girlfriend, has also been dreaming of the "burned man with the claws", and she starts to notice a pattern of more people dreaming of him. This evil dream stalker. This Freddy Krueger. The mere mention of the name threw the town into an uproar, but they were so determined to have a big night on the grid-iron, that any thought of Krueger quickly vanished into thin air. And, with the exception of Lexi, Tash, and a mysterious man dressed in black that roamed the outer limits of town, nobody really cared about Freddy Krueger.

And that's when Freddy made his move. He started to pick off the new Elm Street kids one at a time, including Luke, Veronica, Quinton, and anyone else who got in his way. He would have his revenge, one way or the other.

Lexi, distraught, feared she could be next, and was hell-bent on gathering her remaining friends and family and getting out of there before it was too late. Unfortunately, it was already much too late, as Apryl, Mike, and Tash all fell by his blades, leaving Lexi alone and scared to death.

With the infamous Springwood Slasher closing in, Lexi is forced to make a final stand to save herself and justify the sacrifice of many others before her so that the future children of Elm Street could be saved from this maniac once and for all. Could she do it, or would Fred Krueger reign over Elm Street once again?
