Competitive Club Racing
The club has a strong fleet of competitive sailors. Don't be put off if you are not so serious, we run a number of fun events too.
Learn To Sail
We have fully trained and qualified New Zealand Yachting Instructors, and the club does run a learn to sail programme.
Club Coaching
The club has fully trained and qualified Regatta Race Coaches, who can take you to the next step. Members of the club do hold National Yachting Titles.
Cruising
A highlight for the year, the club runs an annual club cruise in Trailer Sailors on Lake Taupo. A lot of fun and is always run on Wellington Anniversary Weekend.
Poker Race
Fun Fun Fun is the name of the game. Sailors sail to mystery locations on the lake and locate envelopes which contain cards when you have found the five hidden locations, head back to the club rooms, best poker hand wins.
Frostbusters
Sailed on the closest weekend to the shortest day. We race for 3 hours around a course. Yacht with the most number of completed laps on handicap wins.
Algae / Weed
While it is true that the lake has closed in the past due to Algae, it is not usually affected. The lake may close for a couple of weeks in late December. Weed can be a problem, we try to programme sailing around the weed growth cycles, so does not have a big impact.
