About  Horowhenua's Class Ratings:
Ratings Information
This class rating information has been collected over many seasons of sailing by collecting data from other rating systems, and observing boats sailing at big events. Credit needs to be given to the Wheymouth system, The Victoria yacht club, Portsmouth, and other sources from around the world.
New Zealand Trailer Yacht Association
The NZTYA set and maintain the class ratings for all trailer yachts in New Zealand. Ratings marked with NZTYA are official at the time this file was released. From time to time these will change, and we will endeavour to keep our file up to date. If you find any of these ratings out of date, please drop us an email.
Yachting New Zealand
Has our clubs ratings listed on their website, and can be found under class handicaps.
Why we not use the Wheymouth format
The original Wheymouth system used a percentage of the elapsed time, and the New Zealand Trailer Yacht Association used the TCF method. We really needed all classes to be rated in the same way, so all the ratings have been converted to the TCF method allowing simple calculations, which are the same for all classes of boat.

Rating files:
Rating files can be downloaded and integrated into Sailwave, so that you can pick classes and ratings for competitors rather than typeing them in yourself.

Rating files should be saved to your Sailwave ratings folder. This is "c:\program files\sailwave\ratings" unless you have changed it.

To make the NZ ratings active in Sailwave, select the "TCF" method on the ratings Tab.

Because we sail a number of mixed class fleets at Horowhenua, we use a rating system to determine a winner. We use National class ratings where possible which have been allocated to a class. Each classes rating should be taken from the National Champion when sailing against the National Champion in another class. This way the rating applies to the class of boat and not to the sailor sailing the boat.

We use the "Time Correction Factor" (TCF) method to calculate results.

Elapsed Time x Rating = Corrected Time
We use and recommend Sailwave. (Its Free)
