Jurate Macnoriute
Diagnostic Example. Self Analysis Because I know myself best, for exemplification I decided to review my own artworks from different periods. Psychological background By nature I was a lefthander, but in years of infancy I reformed myself to a right hander. My ability was a bit higher than average, I studied without difficulty, though appreciated more subjects written, but not oral, because I has a habit to think long. At secondary school mathematics came well, other pupils copied my home works every morning. I passed over 100 exams, worked hard and too hard without remuneration all my life, suffered many severe stresses, met not a few sticky human beings. This notwithstanding I never crossed a boundary after that insanity is, never took interest in homosexual relations, always was free of alcohol or drug dependence, never had any symptoms of criminality. In 1979 one teacher of painting, who himself had his own psychotic problems, even sent me to psychiatrist for test my mental health. After interrogation a psychiatrist said: "You are absolutely normal and no needs to come here more". Reasons of some hardly explicable occurrences of my life
Thus the hard occurrences in my life are logically explicable and substantiated. Opinion of psychiatrist's, who in 1979 affirmed my good mental health, is validated also by the simplest analysis of my works of art of different periods seen below. |
![]() Fig. 1. Jurate Macnoriute, Still life, 1976, oil on paper. Though this very early my painting is soft and the things stood plumb, their weight appreciable clearly, balance of verticals and horizontals is evident. Upside-downed picture's objects clearly pulled to upwards, to ground (Fig. 2). Laid laterally still life's things keep weights traction to the left in Fig. 3 and to the right in Fig. 4. Compositional arrangement and colors harmonic, soft, stabile, space close, unity of opposites clear, naturalness, euphoria, clearness, sublimity, masses, no strangeness, no childlike appearance, etc are the features characteristic for both this picture and art of normal people. Conclusion -- the painter, that is I, was a mentally healthy individual. |

7.Jurate Macnoriute, sketch, 1987. I did this sketch in 1987 after a
several stresses. As person I was violated, but right weight in drawing is
kept, harmony remained, my mind and brain withstood attacks. |

![]() Fig.8. Jurate Macnoriute, 2000. This landscape I painted strongly using the golden section. The things are easier as usually, and some rise upwards is noticeable though personally for me materiality of things is most characteristic than weightlessness. From this fellows that domination of the golden section is a condition for appearance of the rise and anti-weight. I seldom apply the golden section for painting, because its instability is not reasonable enough for me. In 1994-95 I rendered for Vilnius art academy professors a suggestion of use of the golden section in painting, but in reality, for good and together bad mistake, I used then not exact the golden section, but contiguous to it. That is why in some time I was delighted with it. About mismatch of the golden section and about its approximate use mentioned also Russian film director Sergei Eisenstein. |

Conclusion
The analysis of samples of my paintings shows that I had and have strong sense of true objects' weight, closeness of picture space, harmonic attitude of mind, what are the main characteristics of mentally healthy artists. Any symptomatic features of paranoia, schizophrenia or others absent -- I straightly do not like images of translucent objects covering one another, illogical juxtapositions of unbecoming things, obscenity, fragmentation, unsound deformation, imbecile fantasies, etc. I always seek for truth in way of analysis and experiments, but not dreams.
Analysis of my own painting enabled me to do conclusion that domination of the golden section is a condition for appearance in picture of the rise and anti-weight, from what fellows that for mentally ill ones, children, and criminals, domination of the golden section can be more characteristic than for mentally healthy people.
