LauraBelle's Reality

I feel I have a unique perspective on Reality TV viewing and its purpose in my/our lives. I don't watch Survivor, Bachelor, American Idol and the like to laugh at people, or to criticize people, or to hate/love people. I watch Reality TV simply to understand people.

As I sit in my mini-van parked in the carpool lane, I am developing my idea for daily columns on Reality TV. I watch most reality shows that my remote can find in the evenings, in addition to a daytime reality show, Starting Over. I intend to write a review of each one every night, or every time I don’t feel like cleaning the toilets. If Mom would've only known thirty years ago that I could turn my passion for television into something viable she would have never forced me outside to play. She would have allowed me to stay inside and watch Mike Douglas.

I know there is an overabundance of review columns covering the wide spectrum of Reality TV. I feel mine will be different, however. When I get done reading one of these previously mentioned columns, realizing it was mostly just a synopsis of what I'd just watched hours earlier, I always think that I want more. I want to know how this causes people to think. I want to know what changes watching the Bachelor will make to people's dating lives. I want to know what survival techniques watching Survivor has brought to people working in an office. I want to know how watching Clay Aiken climb from student to God–like status among women of all ages has changed the average person's take on achieving a dream. These are among the things I hope to be able to answer in my column, and the reasons I hope you will return to read up on your own personal reality tv favorites.

Besides, I've been looking for the perfect reason to explain to my husband why we need TIVO.

UPDATE! One very good thing came out of this working on this website. I discovered I wasn't a web designer; I was a writer first and foremost. I also discovered there are many out there that are much better at designing and maintaining websites than me.

For the past year and half I have been writing recaps at Reality Shack. The webmaster here allows me to write recaps of American Idol, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, and Starting Over. Occasionally I get the pleasure of filling in writing for other shows as well. It's a great website, and provides everything a reality TV fan could possible want to read.

In addition, I have also begun a blog writing commentary about a variety of reality shows, but mainly American Idol. You may view my blog at LauraBelle's Blog

And the best news of all ... I finally talked my husband into getting that TIVO.
