~~ AN OLD-FASHIONED CHRISTMAS ~~
An-old fashioned Christmas the very best of its kind,
smells of gingerbread cookies and peeled orange rind.
Delicate poinsettias, red as rare rubies of stone,
Treetop's adornment befitting an Angel's throne.
Wishes of warmth during nights hushed quite still,
eggnog is flowing to ward off cold Winter's chill.
Pleasant pine and cedar lending fragrance in the air,
mistletoe-tied ribbons among strands of dark hair.
A child's mystical dreams, sugarplum fairies dancing,
listening for sounds, tiny reindeer hooves prancing.
Cinnamon, fruits, nuts, wild cranberries, and cloves,
candy canes, chocolate, fresh-baked banana loaves.
Stockings hang on the fireplace awaiting the dawn,
such sweet memories, these simple things foregone.
Basted, stuffed turkey placed on the table with care,
laughter rings out joyous times loved ones share.
Heavenly voices rise up above a softly lit candle,
written by composers, beautiful melodies of Handel.
Celebration reborn, that blessed holy moment,
midnight solace mass and prayers of atonement.
This is the beauty my heart longs to bring back,
it is the reason for the season we now seem to lack.
Home near the hearth where families come together,
loving one another, let these feelings last forever.
If every day could be peaceful, you are here with me,
then what a wonderful world this would truly be.
