 Emerald Green and Pots of Gold

May you live as long as you want,
And never want as long as you live.

Saint Patrick's Day (March 17th), is an Irish holiday honoring
Saint Patrick,the missionary credited with converting
the Irish to Christianity (in the A.D. 400's).
March 17th is both a religious and secular festivity. St. Patrick's Day, a celebration
ofIrish culture, heritage and tradition, was first celebrated in America in 1737. Irish immigrants, missing their homeland and families, lifted their spirits by parading
through the streets of Boston to lively Irish music. The date, March 17th, is
traditionally believed to be the birthdate of St. Patrick; although this cannot be
proven. Nine of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were Irish
colonists. We have had 19 Irish-American presidents; the first of which was
George Washington.

Misty Stream
Near a misty stream in Ireland in the hollow of a tree,
Live mystical, magical leprechauns who are clever as can be,
With their pointed ears, and turned up toes
and little coats of green,
The leprechauns busily make their shoes
and try hard not to be seen.
Only those who really believe have seen these little elves,
And if we are all believers,
we can surely see for ourselves.
-Unknown

little leprechaun
I'm a little leprechaun
Dressed in green,
The tiniest man
That you have ever seen.
If you ever catch me, so it's told,
I'll give you my pot of gold.

From :Encyclopedia Mythica
Leprechaun
Derived from the Gaelic luacharma'n, "pygmy"; or leith brogan "maker of one shoe".
~~~~~~~
Very small sprites who sometimes live in farmhouses or wine cellars. They are known
to aid humans and perform small labors for them. Sometimes they ask humans for
supplies and furniture, for which in return they give objects which bring luck and
fortune. Leprechauns are called fairy cobblers, for they make shoes for elves (but
always one shoe, never a pair). They are seen quite often by humans and are
described as merry little fellows gaily dressed in old-fashioned clothes; green,
with a red cap, leather apron, and buckled shoes. When they finish their daily tasks, leprechauns like to organize wild feast, during whichtime they are referred to as
cluricauns. These (often drunk) cluricauns can then be seen riding in moonlight
on the back of a dog or a sheep. According to popular belief, a leprechaun
possesses a treasure (usually a pot of gold) which a human may obtain if he
succeeds in capturing one, which is extremely difficult.Even after capture,
a person may not take his eyes off of him for an instant, for then
he will vanish. Leprechauns are mainly found in Irish folklore.
Wee Bit 'O Wisdom
May your blessings out number the shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you wherever you go.
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine down upon your face,
And the rain fall soft upon your fields,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
-Irish Blessing
Up the airy mountain
Down the rushy glen,
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear o' little men
-William Allingham
May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.
-Irish Saying
Green are the hills of Ireland,
And green they will always stay.
Warm are the blessings wished for you,
And they'll always stay that way.
-Irish Blessing
May the saddest day of your future be no worse
than the happiest day of your past
.-Irish Saying
May there always be work for your hands to do,
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine warm on your windowpane,
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you,
and may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
-Irish Blessing
May your glass be ever full.
May the roof  be always strong
over your head.
And may you be in heaven half an hour
before the devil knows you're dead.
-Irish Toast
Irish Proverbs
A soft answer turns away anger.
Both your friend and your enemy think that you will never die.
The mouth that speaks is not as sweet to hear.
A friends eye is a good mirror.
The older the fiddle the sweeter the tune.
You'll never plough a field by turning it over In your mind.
It's no use boiling your cabbage twice.
Gods help is nearer than the door.
You cant' take blood from a stone.
If you lie with dogs you'll rise with fleas.
Neither give cherries to pigs nor advice to fools.
The longest road out is the shortest road home.
Blarney stone
The famous Blarney Stone is not pretend, it really exists!
It is set in the wall of the Blarney Castle in the Irish village of,
what else, Blarney. You can visit and kiss the Blarney stone,
but it is not an easy fete. To reach the Blarney stone, you
must lie down on your back and bend your head backwards
and downwards to reach it. It is said that kissing the Blarney
Stone will give you the gift of blarney, or speakingconvincingly
to all you meet!
and pour the HOT whiskey over it so it flows down gently, then add the cream.
True Irish Coffee always has THREE distinct layers. When served, you first use
Soda Bannock
 fruit bread
Ingredients
8 ounces of flour (2 cups)
1 level teaspoon of salt
1 level teaspoon of cream of Tartar
1 level teaspoon of baking soda
Buttermilk (about 1/8 liter)
1/2 ounce butter (1/8 of a stick)
1/2 ounce sugar (1/8 cup)
optional: 1 oz dried fruit (1/4 cup, traditionally raisins)
Sieve the flour, salt, cream of Tartar and baking soda.
Rub in the butter with your fingertips.
Mix in a small amount of buttermilk to form a wet dough - the amount is about
1/8 of a liter box of buttermilk. You should be able to pick up and handle the dough,
but it should also be pretty damp and stretch easily.
Dust a countertop with flour and knead the dough a little (the fun part of
breadmaking!).
Then form the dough into an oval shape a couple of inches high, roll it in flour
and place it in a floured baking pan.
Flatten it to about 1 - 1/2 inches height with the backs of your hands in the pan.
Bake for half an hour at 350 F.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold.  But other times it's
essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important
decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down
on the rainbow.
